How to write a formal letter
What is a letter?
a written or printed communication addressed to a person or organization and usually transmitted by mail. Or a symbol or character that is conventionally used in writing and printing to represent a speech sound and that is part of an alphabet.




Formal letter are letters you write to a non related family member or individual, what I mean by this is formal letter are those letters that are written to individuals whom are not in anyway related to you, for example; Your boss, your manager, your principal, your vise chancellor, your lecturer etc.

In writing this letter you don't need to write much all you need is to hit the nail by the head, what I mean by this is you have to go straight to the point.

THINGS YOU NEED NOT TO DO WHILE WRITING A FORMAL LETTER.

• Do not ask questions like "How are you" "how is your family"  " how is your parents " this is totally wrong in writing a professional formal letter.

• You don't need to write long words : when writing a formal letter always keep it short, go straight to the point, don't beat around the bush, as this may bore the recipient and the outcome may not be good.

Now lets go straight to the point

TIPS ON HOW TO WRITE A FORMAL LETTER

ADDRESS: A formal letter usually has two addresses, that of the writer's (which is yours) and that of the recipient, if you fail to include the both addresses then you are already getting it wrong.

HEADING OR TOPIC: A formal letter comes with a heading  or topic and it must be written in capital letter as this will enable the recipient know what your letter is all about Example HEADING/TOPIC "APPLICATION FOR A JOB"

SIR/MA: Always  refer to the recipient as sir or ma, if you're not sure
If the recipient is either a male or a female you can use both this way "SIR/MA.

GO STRAIGHT TO THE POINT: No long words just go straight to the point like I said earlier hit the nail by the head don't beat around the Bush, example "Sir/Ma my main purpose of writing this letter is to apply for the job of the Managing Director of Chicago company" just like that

KEEP IT SHORT: since formal letter don't need introductions it has to be short, you have to go straight to the point by stating your main purpose of writing the letter.
